Your North Carolina Link to the
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

In the near future, you may be able to take pictures like these in the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, in conjunction with Federal and State agencies, has re-introduced elk into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Today, elk number about 1 million in North America. This represents roughly 10 percent of the estimated population before European settlement of North America. The elk that once lived here in the southeast, were eliminated in the mid 1800's. It is time to bring them back and you can help. Whether you simply become a member, join us at one of our fund raising banquets, or work as a volunteer to help make a chapter successful you will be helping to improve the plight of elk and other wildlife through many habitat projects.

I encourage you to contact me or one of the chapter committee members so that we may answer your questions.
