High Country Chapter
Beginning in 2001, the Elk Foundation and National Park Service released elk
into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as an
experimental population. Today, roughly 90 elk roam the park. The Park Service
will announce a long-term management plan for this elk herd in 2010.

won't want to miss the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation High Country Chapter's
17th annual banquet and fundraiser. We
guarantee you a great time supporting a great cause!
This year's banquet is on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 at High
Country Home Builders Association. Doors open at 5:30
AM. During the "social hour" you'll enjoy drawings, raffles,
games, drinks, and the silent auction. Dinner and live auction
will follow.
Proceeds from this event will go to support RMEF's vital
conservation efforts. Need proof?
Since 1984, the Elk Foundation has:
- Permanently protected more than 1,400 square miles of critical elk habitat;
- Opened more than 590,000 acres to the public to hunt, fish and roam;
- Improved habitat across 4.8 million acres of elk country;
- Funded more than 6,500 projects to promote conservation education and North
America's hunting heritage.
Few organizations can boast such numbers - a reflection of the efficiency that
earned RMEF a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
Local RMEF chapter events raise the lion’s share of the funding for Elk Foundation
conservation work. In North
Carolina, funds raised at RMEF Big Game Banquets have helped complete 35 conservation
projects valued at more
than $2 million. Our work in North Carolina also includes funding conservation
education and hunting heritage
activities that introduce young people and women to the outdoors, promote hunter
safety and responsibility, and
involve kids in conservation.
This year's banquet: This year’s event will feature
various raffles and drawings for rifle and shotguns from Browning, Winchester,
Ruger & Remington. Great optics too! Numerous Limited edition wildlife prints
and bronzes, numerous knives, jewelry, and much more!
